Welcome to Public Safety Today - The Rules
Welcome! Thank you for visiting.
My name is Ed Zuccarelli, and I am an emergency services veteran. I have over six decades of combined service in law enforcement, fire suppression and safety, and mobile health. I also have an intense interest and background in American civics, with an emphasis on the United States Constitution. My historical period of interest is US history from the Korean War to Watergate. (1950 to 1975) For more information, please read my profile and biography.
As I do not like the word "Blog" I will only use it when absolutely necessary. This is a professional opinion and editorial column similar to those you see in newspapers.
Professionally I work as a commercial photographer. My current website is "Theatrical Photography by Ed Zuccarelli" (tpez.com). You may have been forwarded here via a link from that website. If not, I invite you to visit the photography site at your convenience because for now, that pays the bills. I am also establishing a public safety consultancy named "Emergency Response Education", but more about that later.
I will be writing about various topics relating to crime prevention, public safety, Internet safety, emergency services education, and trends in the emergency services that I view as positive or negative. I will initiate discussions about these and other topics. And of course, those discussions will have rules.
1) These discussions will be conducted in an intellectual nature. Personal opinions are welcome, but personal attacks are not. I allow disagreements, but I reserve the right to sanction anyone for personal attacks, off topic references, and anything else I feel is inappropriate. In short, a lack of respect will result in us moving on about five seconds after I show you the door. Using the term "Fake News" has the same result but the recovery time is shorter.
2) The First Amendment does not apply here. Let me explain. The purpose of the Bill of Rights, and in this case the First Amendment to the Constitution, is to provide for the protection of citizens from the Government, not other citizens. I am not the government, nor do I represent any entity besides my own. In short, you have as much free speech as anyone else. I will decide if you get to use it here. I refer you back to the first rule. We can disagree, but we will be civil. Think of this as any quiet neighborhood pub. If things get out of hand, the owner will tell you to "take it outside" which means take it off this page. This warning will only be issued once. The second warning, just like in any good pub, is a virtual "friction taped baseball bat" that's always within reach and will be brought out as I ask you to leave. There is no third warning.
3) Your "opinion" is respected, but it is not "fact" unless you can prove it. Know the difference, because if you are challenged, you may be asked to cite information backing up your position. Choose your citations carefully. I have friends who will hopefully be stopping by and they are hell in an argument. Trust me on this.
4) You learn plenty in six decades doing anything, and I will be sharing my experiences with you using facts, personal anecdotes, and with humor as well. I plan to do one major topic per week, where comments and questions can be addressed. In between I will be posting various safety tips and information that you may find to be of value.
I have plenty to say, in a world where it needs to be said.
Join me.
Ed
Good luck, Ed! I'm with you all the way!
